What we collect
When you create an account we store your name, email address and a securely hashed password. As you use What2Eat we store the pantry items you scan or enter, the recipes generated for you, your grocery list, cook history, taste ratings and optional dish photos you attach.
How AI processing works
Photos you scan and voice recordings you make are sent to our AI providers (OpenAI and Google Gemini via a secure gateway) solely to detect ingredients, transcribe speech, and generate recipes or dish images. They are processed transiently and are not used to build advertising profiles.
Camera, microphone & photos
Camera access is used only to scan your pantry. Microphone access is used only while you record your pantry by voice. Photo library access is used only when you choose to pick or attach a photo. We never access these in the background.
What we don't do
We do not sell your personal data. We do not show third-party ads. We do not track you across other apps or websites. Aggregated statistics we produce are never linked to your identity.
Anonymized insights (your choice)
To keep the app free, we may combine everyone's activity into aggregated, fully anonymized food-trend insights — for example, 'pasta was the most-scanned pantry item this month'. These statistics contain no names, emails, photos or anything that can be traced back to you, and may be shared with or licensed to partners such as food brands. You can opt out at any time from Profile → Data & Insights; your activity is then excluded from all aggregations.
Payments
Sage Pro subscription payments are processed by Stripe on their secure checkout pages. Your card details go directly to Stripe — we never see or store them. We keep only a record of your subscription status and transaction reference.
Sharing
Content is only shared when you explicitly tap a share button. Shop-this-list buttons open third-party retailers (e.g. Instacart, Amazon) whose own privacy policies then apply.
Data retention & deletion
Your data is kept while your account is active. You can permanently delete your account and ALL associated data at any time from Profile → Delete Account. Deletion is immediate and irreversible.
Children
What2Eat is not directed at children under 13 and we do not knowingly collect data from them.
